1. Empty and Categorize Your Items

Start by completely emptying your purse. Lay out all the contents on a flat surface to see what you have.

2. Sort your belongings into categories.

Common categories include:

  • Essentials: Wallet, phone, keys, ID
  • Cosmetics: Lip balm, hand sanitizer, compact mirror
  • Health and Safety: Medications, band-aids, tissues
  • Tech: Earbuds, portable charger, USB drive
  • Miscellaneous: Pens, notebook, snacks

3. Purge Unnecessary Items

Be ruthless about what you don’t need. Old receipts, expired coupons, dried-out pens, and other non-essential items should be discarded. Keep only what you truly need and use regularly.

Invest in a Purse Organizer

A purse organizer insert is a game-changer. These inserts come with multiple pockets and compartments, making it easy to keep everything in its place. Plus, they can be moved from one bag to another with ease.

Benefits of Using a Purse Organizer

One of the key benefits of using a purse organizer is the ability to keep all of your essentials neatly in place, making it easier to find what you need quickly.

Purse organizers also make it easy to switch bags. If the bags are similar sizing you can lift the organizer from one bag and insert it into another.

Types of Purse Organizers to Consider

Purse Organizer Insert

A purse organizer insert is a great option especially for larger bags with minimal pockets. Be sure to measure the inside of your purse and pick the right size for you. If its an option I personally like to go a little on the smaller side as it gives me more wiggle room inside my purse.

Pro’s

  • Keeps all your items neatly organized with multiple compartments and pockets.
  • Easy to find specific items quickly without rummaging through your bag.
  • There are a variety with water bottle holders so you can keep a coffee cup or water bottle secured
  • Zipper pockets for more valuable things.
  • Some varieties have an easy remove zipper pocket that can double as a wallet if you don’t need the whole purse.
  • Soft pockets can keep your items safe from damage.
  • Easily switch purses

Con’s

  • These can feel a little bulky in some bags. They are fairly structured, but do have some give. For this reason I do like to by these a little on the smaller side if its an option so that I have a little more give.

You can also look into a less structured option such as this Vercord Nylon Organizer

Another option is compact pouch organizer that fits snugly inside your purse without adding bulk.

Utilize Pouches and Mini Bags

Small pouches or mini bags are perfect for keeping similar items together.

Pro’s

  • Minimizes Bulk that some inserts can create
  • More flexibility for smaller or multiple pocket purses
  • Great for categorizing and separating items (e.g., one pouch for makeup, another for tech gadgets).
  • Can be used within a larger bags or smaller bags to keep items organized.

Con’s

  • Not as easy to transfer between bags.
  • Managing several pouches could lead to frequently needing to sort or rearrange.

Small Clear Travel Bags

For my backpack purse I actually prefer small clear travel bags. Clear bags are a great option when you need to have multiples to keep things sorted. Its easy to see what is in each bag and prevents you from needing to go through multiples.

A Tech Bag

Consider a tech bag to keep your electronics organized. I typically carry a power bank, cords, and ear buds with me. Having these in a secure location to prevent damage and tangling is key. Also keeping things together in one pouch makes it so much easier to find what you need when you need it.

A mini first aid kit

If you are one to carry first aid items then find a small kit that is meant for travel to keep in your purse.

Pill Organizer

For me I do not carry a full first aid kit in my purse as most of my first aid is in the car kit. However, I do carry some medicine such as Motrin, Pepcid, and motion Sickness medicine. These items add up and you wouldn’t want to mix them. So find a pill organizer that works for your needs.

Each type of organizer offers its own unique benefits, so it’s important to consider your individual needs and preferences when selecting the right one for you.

Tips for Maintaining an Organized Purse

Designate Specific Spots

Assign specific spots for your most-used items. For example, always place your keys in an outer pocket for easy access, and keep your wallet in a designated compartment to avoid frantic searches.

Limit Your Wallet Contents

Your wallet can quickly become a source of clutter. Regularly clean it out, removing old receipts and loyalty cards you don’t use. Consider using a cardholder for a slimmer profile if you don’t carry much cash.

Regular Maintenance

Organization isn’t a one-time task. Make a habit of tidying your purse weekly. This practice helps you keep track of your belongings and prevents clutter from accumulating.

Choose the Right Purse

Select a purse that fits your lifestyle and organizational needs. Look for features like multiple compartments, zippered pockets, and a size that suits your daily activities. A purse that’s too large can become a black hole, while one that’s too small might not fit your essentials.

An organized purse is more than just visually pleasing—it’s a functional, stress-reducing tool. By following these tips, you can streamline your handbag, making it easier to find what you need when you need it. Start with a thorough declutter, invest in some handy organizational tools, and establish a routine to maintain order. Happy organizing!
