Fun Exercises – Making Fitness Fun

Working out is not always fun but it is important to make sure you are active. It can be boring to always be going to the gym or doing your home workouts so sometimes I like to switch it up and do an activity that is fun that is not a traditional workout. Each weekend instead of a workout I try to do an active activity that changes up my weekly routine. Some suggestions are listed below!

Hiking

This is my favorite activity to go do on the weekends. It is a great workout and it feels good to get outside and away from the city.

Go to the Climbing Gym

If you have an indoor climbing gym near you check it out. It is a great workout and can be so much fun. It’s a completely different type of workout.

Go to the Park

Go to the park and play with your kids or just take a brisk walk. A change of scenery and fresh air is always a great break from being in the gym. Some parks even have workout equipment for adults to workout while the kids play.

Dance

Dancing is a fun way to burn some calories. Go out dancing with the girls or take a dance class. Stuck at home for the weekend? Turn up the music at home and dance, get your kids involved!

Sports

Get out and play a game with the family. Kick ball, soccor, tag football. All great ways to get out and have some fun and burn some calories.

Bike Ride

Take the bikes out, you can ride trails, around the neighborhood, at the park. Research your nearest city. A lot of cities have trails made for bike riding that would be safe and off the road. Or if you prefer check out your parks to look for mountain bike paths.

Clean Your Home

Ok, this one may not be exactly fun, but it usually needs done. Turn on your favorite playlist and really get into. A few hours of cleaning can really burn some calories. Add some music you might sing and dance to a little and get a bonus burn.

Go for a Swim

Swimming can be a lot of fun, and is also a great way to burn calories. Take the kids to the pool, or to the lake beach. If the weather isn’t right look for an indoor pool.

Rollerblading or Skating.

This can be a fun activity, look for a nice paved path and take your roller blades and burn some calories. This is also a great activity to do with the family!

There are many ways that you can get in a decent work out and still have fun! These are also great family activities so you can be active and spend some quality time with your family.

What are some of your favorite non workout workouts?

You should totally try it! It is one of my favorite activities. Its a challenge for both body and mind as you work out the routes.

I agree with hiking! It’s soooo tiring, but it’s worth it when you get to see the view at the top. Lately, I’ve been loving dancing to Korean girl group songs!

I love going for the exercise options that keep things fun. It makes the exercise easier and pass by quicker.

Totally agree! You can often get more in too. Hiking for example, may be a couple hours worth of fun “work” vs 30 minutes in a gym.

I’m all for hiking whenever I get a chance. Else, speed walking & swimming works wonderfully for both my body & mind. By the way, cleaning your home can be a great substitute for exercise. especially if you have kids around : )

I hike whenever I get a chance also! I don’t have kids yet, but I can imagine the extra effort it takes.

A physical puzzle! I totally get, figuring out the right way to use your body to get to the next hold. Its not always as obvious as it seems.

What a list of wonderful tips! I agree, dancing is a fun way to burn some calories. In fact, it has been kind of popular in my city, that numbers of fitness centres offer zumba, modern dance, or belly dance classes. ~ Ola @ WanderWithOla

I love to do a lot of these and did more before my back surgery. I didn’t even realize that when I clean, I’m performing a fitness option. I clean daily so maybe it’s helping.

I’m sure glad that cleaning the house counts as exercise because some days that’s all I get. My watch always records more steps on days that I clean. (With that motivation, you’d think my house would be cleaner!)

I needed this! I tend to think exercise is work – borderline torture. I do like hiking, dancing, and rollerblading. I should do those activities instead of working out.
